What is NTA? The National Teachers Association for Country Western
Dance was founded in 1986 to:
How does the NTA fu
nction It is a public organisation with a similar structure
to the SCWDA. The committee is voted in for 2 years. The NTA has divided the world into zones, whereby
each zone has it’s own director who is chosen by the members. Each
zone is again divided into States with the exception of Europe. Here
the States are called Countries. The zone director appoints the
so-called State, or Country directors. Why Standardise? NTA members voted to define the terminology, posture
etc. pass this on to the teachers and encourage them to use it in their
courses. Therefore, wherever one goes in the world Country and
Western dancing has the same language and is understood by everyone. Training and tests: The terminology is spread and worked out in workshops,
which are held throughout the year. A member of the NTA examiners
commission comes to examine when the opportunity arises, e.g..
Championships. Workshops: Several subjects are taken into consideration, dance
style, steps, posture, foot positions etc., as well as anything to do with
dancing, which one would need to know and which also appears in the tests.
Whenever possible guest speakers or dancers are also invited. Since we do not receive any financial support from
the “mother association” in America we, as well as the other countries,
have to charge for Workshops. There are several stages and tests Basic Fundamental, everyone is invited to take part
at this basic training. One is able to take the test even if one is
not a NTA member Line Dance 1 and 2 are also open for all, however,
one is required to be a NTA member. The same applies for Couple Dance 1 and 2 If you still have any questions, proposals or
suggestions for Workshops, I am at your disposal at the above-mentioned
address. Country Director Switzerland: Barbara Dietsche |
